What is Movember?
We care about your health, and this year we’re showing it by raising money and awareness in support of Movember, an annual charity event whose proceeds benefit research into the prevention and cure of testicular and prostate cancer, and other men’s health concerns. Participants grow mustaches throughout November to help make people aware of health issues unique to men.
Movember was started 10 years ago in Melbourne, Australia and has quickly grown into a global charity benefiting The LiveStrong Foundation, The Prostate Cancer Foundation, and many others – and involves millions of us who want to get involved and make a difference.
Everyone who donates to or participates in Movember has his or her own motivation. Our Director of Operations, Shawn Gentry, has been kind enough to share his:
“I lost my father three years ago to poor health. He was always very athletic and outdoorsy but, I fear that later in life, my dad fell into depression that led to him fall into poor health which ended his life far too soon. I will never stop wondering if there is anything I could have done to help that would have kept him here a little longer to get to know my daughter and watch her grow up into the beautiful little girl she is today – maybe even getting to see her graduate from high school, college, or beyond. But I’ll never know.
“So, I decided to be a healthier, fitter me and vowed to start eating healthier and less, getting regular exercise, drinking more water – and just taking better care of myself, as well as doing the regular maintenance of getting regular checkups, prostate exams, and spreading awareness whenever I have the chance. This will be my 4th year participating in Movember.
“Part of our mission at The Stockroom is to promote the ideal that making fetish and kink a part of your lifestyle can lead to a healthier, happier you. So, we plan to share tips and recommendations throughout the month of November to show you how.”
